JIM IRVIN

TOPLINE SONGWRITER.

Jim Irvin is a writer who has enjoyed a unique career across multiple areas of the music business. Born and raised in West London, at 18 he was the singer in the British indie band, Furniture, and wrote their classic hit single, "Brilliant Mind". In the mid '90s he diverted into music journalism, becoming the founding features editor of MOJO Magazine and editing an acclaimed book, The MOJO Collection.

After producing and writing with '90s bands Gay Dad and Clearlake, Irvin returned to full-time songwriting in 2001, signing to Warner Chappell and concentrating initially on dance music, co-writing Michael Gray's smash, "The Weekend", and having work recorded by David Guetta, Groove Armada and Full Intention.

Since then, Irvin has brought his lyrical and melodic skills and extraordinary musical knowledge to a wide variety of collaborations, among them Lana Del Rey, Lissie, Gabrielle Aplin, Pixie Lott, Gavin DeGraw, Lower Than Atlantis, Jess Glynne, Michelle Branch, Simple Plan and Nothing But Thieves, many of these in partnership with musician and producer Julian Emery.

"We enjoy working across many genres, in and out of our comfort zones," says Jim. "Whoever we write with, the challenge is to find the sweet spot where we intersect to come up with something none of us were expecting. Jules is a brilliant player and producer and my chief strength is working with singers on lyric and melodies. We've found that even artists who write their own toplines appreciate having someone to spar with and raise their game, especially if they're tired of staring at a producer's back." The team have worked extensively in LA, writing singles for Lissie ("When I'm Alone" - named Song of the Year 2010 by ITunes UK , "In Sleep", "Shameless" and "Further Away"), Simple Plan ("Astronaut"), Michelle Branch ("Loud Music") and tracks with Halestorm, Josh Krajcik, Ryan Beatty, Gavin DeGraw and many more. In the UK, their song with Gabrielle Aplin, "Start Of Time" climaxes her chart-topping album, 'English Rain'. They have three songs on the Lower Than Atlantis’s acclaimed self-titled album. Their song with Lewis Watson, "Stones Around The Sun" opens his debut album. 'The Morning'. They've written with Rudimental singer Anne-Marie ("Forget My Number"), Chloe Howl (“Rumour”) and have recently branched out into production for the debut album by rising British band, Nothing But Thieves (RCA). Jim has also collaborated with Tim Larcombe on Lana Del Rey's "This Is What Makes Us Girls" from her multi-platinum selling 'Born To Die' album and written recently with TMS, MNEK, Jess Glynne, Ella Eyre, James Bay and Becky Hill.
